After reading about GAIA, I found very interesting how Lovelock was not one to pressure individuals to change the entire world. Throughout The Green Halo I had found a majority of the scientist place a burden of fixing the environmental issues and doing fast and saving the world. The idea of solving all the entire environmental issues is a daunting one, the list of things that contribute to our environmental dilemma is huge and is constantly growing. I found that his idea of making a contribution for yourself will indeed contribute to solving fixing the problem. Another point of his I found was interesting was his list of things contributing our environmental problem: "cars, cattle, and chainsaws." Like I said earlier, the list of contibuting factors to issues we have today is so intimidating it makes working torwards solving the issues seem like a waste of time. His "three C's" although simply listed could largely address many of the contributions to the environmental melt down. Decreasing the amount of cars or driving decreases the output of greenhouse gasses and decreasing the number of trees removed increases the the amount of greenhouse gasses removed, it seems quite simply in these terms, but it is a huge stepin addressing the environmental situation. Just as decreasing the number cattle, decreases the destruction of natural environments and in turn decreases the number of cattle that can be turned to meat to feed the ever growing human population. Less cattle means less food, which leads to a decrease in the over population and exploitation of the planet. Simplifying the solutions to the problem makes the situation seem more managable and less intimidating, increasing the odds we can actually fix the problems.
