Global Warming

The first half of the book discussed the impact that humans are having on global warming. This part of the book made me feel wasteful and terrible about myself. I think a lot of people know the affects of their actions on the earth, but they keep doing what they are doing. For example people know cars and trucks can hurt the environment, but we still drive enormous SUVs. I think people will start to change their actions when it starts to affect them. And by then it might be too late. On another hand I have notice that a lot of places are trying their best to be green, such as recycling and reusing items. Maybe the government should mandate businesses to be green in some sort of way or give them a tax break if they are green.

  1. I agree with the fact that you said that people will not start to change until the situation that we are in directly affects them. People hear that the globe is changing, but do they really want to do things to help reverse the process? People drive SUVs because they are "bigger and better." Unfortunately, they cannot physically see the fumes that they are breathing in because of their car. This can be the same with the melting of the glaciers. People hear about them, but they physically do not see them or have to deal with them in their every day lives. I think that until Florida is under water, or we have to wear masks because we can't breathe, then people will start to change the way they are treating the environment. But by then it may be way too late and nothing will be able to go back to the way it was. There are simple answers to the problems that the Earth is facing: recycling, environment friendly cars, using less energy. It is just a matter of people taking action to make a change.

  2. I also agree with Mo. Until global warming literally smacks people in the face, they are not going to do anything about it, or even care for that matter. Global warming is becoming more severe as time passes by, being only slightly off set by the efforts of few to go green and protect the environment. Without the cooperation of the majority, Global warming will only continue to damage our struggling environment.

  3. I disagree; I think that over the past several years, there has been a considerable push in our society to "go green." For instance Cincinnati metro just added a fleet of hybrid buses. Also now in the U.S. you are seeing a lot more smart cars driven. I believe that the SUV industries are suffering right now because people are not buying them. In this economy people can not sell their cars right now because they would take such a huge economic loss.
